Merry Christmas
I'm at work today, and then the family is all meeting at my house this evening for dinner. Tomorrow morning we'll hang out with my mom's side of the family and then we'll move on to my dad's side. I'm looking forward to it.
Saturday we leave for a New Year's Eve in New Orleans!
Merry Christmas to everyone!
This is My Favorite Band
This is my favorite band, has been for a few years:
Streetlight ManifestoMy previously favorite band was Catch 22. The lead singer of Streetlight was once the lead singer for Catch 22, so basically I just follow him around. He's unbelievably talented. I can't get over it.
Anyway, Streetlight released a new cd last month, and I've been listening to it a lot. All of their music instantly puts me in a good mood. It's energetic, fun, emotional...
I've had their songs running through my head all day, so I figured I'd blog about them. Check them out if you get bored (or if you just want to hear what kind of music I like).
Just In Case You Believe Bill O'Reilly
Just in case you believe it when Bill O'Reilly and other folks tell you the world (or this country at least) is a liberal breeding ground and conservatives are the only real minorities left, here are two stories for you to check out:
A student at a NY high school was
sent home from school for wearing a shirt that said, "gay? fine by me." The good news is that the school issued an apology. Their initial reaction, though, was to punish the student. Not so liberal if you ask me.
Intent on proving that his conservative views weren't tolerated, a student at Princeton
faked his own assault and threatening emails to himself and his conservative friends. It turns out that liberals (or other students) didn't hate him as much has he wanted them to.
The Pink Armageddon
Well, J (my partner if you're new around here) decided to jump on the bandwagon and start a blog of his own. He's already complained that after just 2 days of blogging, ideas for posts have been seeping into every minute of his day. Join the club. It's either blog less often or constantly worry what you're going to write about next.
Anyway, J's blog is called
The Pink Armageddon, and it has nothing to do with ex-gays, politics, or religion. It's more of a pop culture satire/humor type of thing (he's the funny, I'm the serous one--kind of).
Check it out, he needs some readers. Oh, and let me know what you think too!
Teenager Undergoes Gender Reassignment Surgery
In Argentina, a 17-year old boy recently
underwent gender reassignment surgery to become a female. The operation actually took place in La Plata, a town just outside of Buenos Aires where I studied for a semester in college. Kind of fun to see such an obscure town in the news.
I'm not sure how I feel about the surgery. I'm not transgendered, and I don't know what it's like to go through something like that, but my first thought is that 17 seems too young for the full surgery.
Pete Wentz Wishes He Was Gay
Pete Wentz, the bassist for the pop-punk band Fallout Boy, told NPR recently that he wishes he was gay. I actually like the band, but I've had some issues with Pete doing almost anything for publicity.
Although, I will admit that he seems to be pretty pro-gay. This quote aside, he wrote a song on his band's most recent album called, "Gay is not a Synonym for Sh****y" and at a concert a while back, he made a speech to fans about the same topic (
here's my blog post on that situation). So, kudos for that, especially from a person that could easily not get involved with the issue at all.
Here's the quote:
I would never come out and say I’m gay, because I’m not gay. There’s part of me that kind of wishes I was gay, and I think that comes from anybody constantly
wishing they were in the minority and constantly wants to be fighting everybody
off.
It's an interesting thought, and one that seems to argue against the idea that being gay is a choice. Pete actually wants to be gay, but he just can't make himself become attracted to guys...
