We Don't Need You or Your $3 Million

From PinkDome I found out about a pretty amazing story. Apparently a senior class at a high school in Austin is reading Brokeback Mountain, a story about two gay cowboys from what I have heard (the movie is coming out soon). It seems a donor wasn't too happy about the story because of it's gay theme. So, the school told him to take a hike and gave back the $3 million he donated.

Three million dollars goes a long way at any school, so it takes a whole lot of guts to do this. All I can say is, way to go! This story really made me smile today.

That is awesome. I thought schools that put their students first and money last were non existent.

wait, you're happy because they gave him back 3 million dollars back because of a gay theme? Isn't that prejudged on the schools part? I'm confused

Elizabeth-

The school has a policy that they don't take conditional donations. These donors expressed concern about the book (that was recommended, not required reading) and mentioned that if the book stayed on the list, maybe the building they are paying for shouldn't have their name on it. So, the school gave the money back.

Basically the school does not want to have to be under the thumb of its donors. I'm not sure how that is prejudice by the school.

Samantha, thanks for the comments, I agree!

Ooooh, well then that is awesome! How ignorant those donors were. Glad they gave back the dirty money.
